About Me

I’m Thomas Hankey, a technology designer and IT enthusiast based in Youngstown, Ohio. I specialize in designing and implementing robust technology infrastructures, blending creativity with practical solutions for business environments. With professional experience in project estimation, cabling system design, and managed services, I’ve spent years helping organizations streamline their technology while building my own ventures, including Steel Valley Technology Group.

I am a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) with Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) and a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) with the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA). I have been professionally in the Low Voltage industry since 2018.

I am also an Eagle Scout, having been active in scouting from at least 2005 through 2016, when I earned the rank of Eagle Scout. The values, discipline, and problem-solving skills I developed in scouting continue to influence my professional work and personal projects.

Outside of work, I’m deeply passionate about smart home technology, media servers, and creating connected, efficient living spaces. I love exploring new tech, solving complex problems, and learning how systems can work smarter, not harder. Whether I’m designing a cutting-edge cabling system or tinkering with my local Home Assistant server, my goal is always the same: to make technology seamless, reliable, and a little more enjoyable.
